Compared to seersucker, polka dots or even gingham, plaid is not, in and of itself, a humorous fabric. But a few of my old cohorts at Bernstein-Rein have deployed the fabric to good comedic use in a new President’s Day Sale spot for furniture chain Havertys. (Which really not ironically at all doesn’t have any stores in Kansas City, where BR is located, but does in Dallas, where I relocated an eon ago.) It took me a few viewings to realize the actress just may be channeling Molly Shannon’s Mary Katherine Gallagher character without the armpit sniffing. Which, true or not, isn’t a bad thing. The characterization part, not the armpit sniffing. Well, that, too. Anyway, I like it. I like it a lot.
