Looks like the Priceline Negotiator, aka William Shatner, has met his timely demise in a new spot from Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners. After 14 years of portraying the, what else, over-the-top doyen of travel deals, the 80-year-old Shatner is being shuffled off this particular advertising coil in way befitting both the character and the man who played him. I am, admittedly, a Shatner fan, having devoured his hamminess as a child watching “Star Trek” reruns and that “Twilight Zone” episode in which he spots gremlin eating the wing of the airplane he’s on. I’ll be sad to to the Negotiator go – I think it’s been one of the better long-term campaigns around. Never afraid to mix things up, try new design looks are directorial styles, all while staying true to the message. Well played, everyone. Well played.
